Fooling Some of the People All of the Time

Most fund managers who I admire are those who utilize value oriented strategies (which most people mistakenly assume doesn't involve shorting). But value investing and shorting are far from mutually exclusive. For most value oriented funds, shorting is an integral part of executing their strategy. (Ok!, you guys already know this, so I'll stop preaching to the choir). But very few fund managers utilize shorting as well as David Einhorn. His results - 25 percent average annual return for the twelve years since Greenlight's inception  - the definition of success for a fund manager.

For me, this is a personal post because David Einhorn is not only an investor that I really admire, but a human being that I greatly admire also. But since the value tradition is rooted in sharing  information, I wanted to introduce him to those who aren't familiar with this brilliant mind. The story is a fascinating one. First, "The Speech", and the story then, the review and finally the book..
