"A design that's safe, portable, low-cost and life-saving"

Embrace

I love life-saving inventions inspired by urgent social problems. And I was delighted to watch Jane Chen's talk on TED about a design which can have tremendous social impact in developing countries. The blanket-like creation is meant to protect [by keeping them warm] premature babies stuggling to stay alive due to their inability to regulate their body . According to Chen, 4 out of 20 million premature babies born around the world die. With this creation, a $25,000 incubator is replaced by a $25 creation, eliminating deaths caused by access to incubators in developing countries. Check out their website to learn more. Kangaroo Mother Care

On the same subject, here's another solution. "The Kangaroo Mother Care...  teaches mothers how to increase the body temperatures of their newborns by wrapping the babies to their bare chests."

Babies

I guess it's only fitting that we conclude this post with a trailer for the soon to be released documentary titled, what else but 'Babies.'
